A few years ago in Barcelona, I experienced my first Aged Rum Old Fashioned. Since then, this has become one of my favorite go-to cocktails that I order when out. I love trying different variations of a rum old fashioned, utilizing interesting bitters, different types of sugar syrup, and fun ice cubes. When I am at home, my favorite version is below:
Mix all of the below ingredients into a rocks glass,
1 large Coconut Water ice cube
3.0oz of Zacapa 23 Rum (or your favorite aged rum)
2-3 dashes of Angostura Bitters
2-3 dashes of Orange Bitters
1-2 bar spoons of Demerara Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar to water)
Stir until very chilled and enjoy!
