If you find yourself visiting Grand Cayman, a stop at Cayman Spirits Co. is a must! Having visited this fantastic distillery three times now—twice during previous stays on the island and most recently in January 2025 during a NYE Cruise—we can confidently say it’s always a highlight of our trip. On our most recent visit, it was the sole activity we chose in Grand Cayman, and it was absolutely worth it.
Though it can be a bit tricky to find a taxi from the busy port to Cayman Spirits, a little patience will go a long way. The taxi ride from the port to the distillery costs around $10-$15, each way. The staff at Cayman Spirits Co. are always incredibly friendly and accommodating, even offering to call a cab for us when it was time to head back to the port.
From the moment you walk through the door, the staff’s energy and warmth provide a welcoming atmosphere. The tasting experience is both educational and entertaining—prepare yourself to sample some of the island's finest spirits. Whether you're into fruity liqueurs, rich rums, or smooth gins and vodka, there's something for everyone here.

Your tour begins in their tasting room with a knowledgeable guide, who walks you through the distillery's wide range of offerings. After sampling some of their most popular items, you’ll head into the distillery for a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour. Once the tour concludes, you're welcome to return to the tasting room to try even more spirits and make purchases if something catches your eye tastebuds.
Since we’ve visited before, we knew we needed to stock up on two of our favorites: Hutchings Blackberry Liqueur and Governor’s Reserve Dark Rum. The Blackberry Liqueur is a delightful addition to any cocktail, offering a burst of fresh blackberry flavor. As for the Governor’s Reserve Dark Rum, it’s hands down one of the best dark rums we’ve ever tasted—smooth, rich, and bursting with molasses notes, it completely outshines more widely known brands like Myers’s Dark Rum.
On this visit, we also picked up two new bottles to try: Seven Fathoms Rum and the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned. Seven Fathoms is a unique rum, aged at 42 feet deep (which is exactly 7 fathoms) off the Cayman coast in American white oak bourbon barrels. A fathom is a unit of length equal to six feet, chiefly used in reference to the depth of water. This innovative aging process gives the rum an incredible smoothness, ideal for sipping or mixing into spirit-forward cocktails. The Barrel Aged Old Fashioned, meanwhile, is a ready-to-enjoy drink made from premium rum, orange bitters, and caramel, then barrel-aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. It’s a perfectly crafted cocktail straight from the bottle.
For an experience that’s fun, informative, and absolutely delicious, make sure to add Cayman Spirits Co. to your itinerary during your visit to Grand Cayman. You’ll leave with not only a newfound appreciation for their spirits but also a few bottles to take home and savor. Cheers!
